Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will start the 2005 Indy Racing League campaign with
a new driver and different powerplant, after revealing that Roger Yasukawa and
Honda will join the effort.
Team owners Dennis Reinbold and Robbie Buhl announced the plans for the #24
entry earlier today [Wednesday], revealing Yasukawa as its first signing in what
is expected to be a two-car line-up. The Japanese-American last ran a full IRL
season in 2003, with the Super Aguri Fernandez squad, finishing twelfth in
points and runner-up to Dan Weldon in the Rookie of the Year chase. He then ran
just two races for Team Rahal in 2004, finishing tenth and eleventh at
Indianapolis and Motegi respectively.
Yasukawa's arrival coincides with that of engine supplier Honda, which replaces
Chevrolet as the team's motive power.
"We're excited to welcome Roger to Dreyer & Reinbold Racing," Reinbold said,
"He's a proven competitor with Honda power, and our team is eager to get onto
the race track. Our new relationship with Honda provides additional motivation
for the team, and we have high expectations for 2005."
DRR also welcomes veteran engineer Len Paskus to its line-up for 2005. The
former Cheever, Pagan, ISM, Blueprint and Heritage employee joins as chief
engineer.
