Powerful brakes are important, as the elephantine coupe weighs in at 2,450 kg (5,401 lb). Notwithstanding the Continental T accelerates with similarly monstrous force, launching from 0 to 100 km/h in only 5.9 seconds (0 - 60 mph takes only 5.7 seconds), with a terminal speed of 273 km/h (170 mph). Incidentally, 30 to 50 mph (48 - 80.5 km/h) takes only 2.16 seconds from standing or 2.48 seconds from steady state, 50 - 70 mph (80.5 - 113 km/h) in 3.37 and 3.69 seconds respectively and 0 to 400 meters (1/4 mile) arrives in a scant 14.1 seconds. 0 to 100 to 0 mph (0 to 161 to 0 km/h) takes a mere 19.75 seconds. Whew!

Obviously it takes quite an engine to accomplish this daunting performance. The T receives a 6.75-L V8, just like the R, but manages 420-hp compared to the 'base' cars 400, and 650 lb-ft of torque rather than the R's 'measly' 616, giving it the highest peak torque rating of any current production car.

A 4-speed automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Control adjusts the gear change points in 'normal' mode according to a particular driver's style. Its shift energy management system provides computer control resulting in smoother than average gear changes. Power goes through the rear wheels via a limited slip rear differential. In case traction is still compromised Bentley has included standard engine actuated traction control, just like F1 cars, cutting into the fuel supply, turbo boost and retarding the ignition to achieve maximum grip.

Unfortunately you won't be able to get a tax break for conservation, as the gluttonous 20.6 L/100 km (15.5 mpg) combined city/highway fuel economy rating is embarrassing enough to make Caligula blush. Factor in the current 90-cent per liter premium fuel price and it would take $97.20 to fill the 108-L (23.75 gallon) tank. Probably not a concern if you just spent the price of a luxury home on your daily driver.
