Meet the Porsche 918 Spyder and all its 887 horses!

Porsche has released the first pictures of the production 918 Spyder hybrid two-seater and confirmed that total output won't be 718 horsepower as previously announced, but rather 887 horsepower. It combines a mid-mounted 4.6L V8 engine with an electric motor and decoupler on the rear axle, plus an electric motor, decoupler, and transmission on the front axle.

Tesla Motors is on quite a roll: Not only did the small electric car maker sell 4,750 Model S sedans in the first quarter of 2013 (eclipsing the Chevrolet Volt and Nissan LEAF), but it outsold the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (3,077 units), BMW 7 Series (2,338 units), and Audi A8 (1,462 units) as well.

My car-testing bud, Miranda, and I are like-minded when it comes to hybrids: we're no huge fans. This belief has been put to the test, and Miranda was won over by the Lexus CT200h a short while back. As far as I'm concerned, the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid has done it for me.

Yup, I drove another hybrid. I know, shocking. But in today's market where EVs and hybrids are all the rage (and all the focus of carmakers), it's kind of hard to avoid 'em. So, I took a deep breath and prepared for my week behind Toyota's latest holier-than-thou, environmentally friendly Prius, the c -- the smallest of the Prius family.
