2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 HD Crew Cab - When World's Collide

Do you like the Avalanche? Chevy hopes so, as the new Silverado's front grille and slanted headlights emulate its funky sibling. But that isn't all that's similar. Its front fenders and hood also appear much like the Av while the new pickup's wheel arches are fortunately less radical, but still squared and bulged slightly with no plastic cladding. To its credit GM has introduced a new somewhat diluted alternative Avalanche this season, without the controversial lower body trim.

While the Silverado's new sculpted taillights give the rear end an updated appearance the cab itself appears unchanged, ditto for the interior. But that's OK as it's a nice place to relax when commuting home after a long day's work. While the base truck cab does its job of keeping you warm and dry and not much else, the top-line 1500 HD LT Crew Cab offers limousine-like roominess and features.

For instance, I didn't expect to find as sophisticated a driver information center (DIC) accessible via the truck's 9-button steering wheel controls. The infotainment system, also optional, puts a new spin on going to the movies. It includes an RDS capable CD equipped audio system connected to a ceiling mounted DVD player/flip-down monitor with external headphone jacks - the days of the kids shouting 'shotgun' for front seat dibs are over. Features such as dual-zone manual or automatic climate control and 4-way heated seat cushions are very un-truck-like, while its power adjustable mirrors include a memory feature on selected models. Like I said, the LT Crew Cab has limousine-like features.
