Common owner complaints include some cheap interior trim pieces, poor visibility and limited trunk space. Tire-related complaints are common, as Crossfire uses staggered tire and wheel sizes between front and rear. This makes rotation impossible and can lead to accelerated wear of the expensive rubber. Additionally, there's no spare--so be sure to factor in CAA membership to your budget.

The list of concerning issues around the Crossfire is relatively short. More than one owner has reported that the rear window on the Convertible model has 'popped out' when the adhesive holding it in place failed. This is a safety concern, though not one you'll be able to preemptively do anything about.

Convertible top mechanisms could fail if the roof's opening or closing action is stopped part-way, as the sensors may 'forget' where the mechanism was. This could be a particular pain if it starts to rain, though the roof does have provisions for manual crank operation in an emergency.

Some owners report shuddering or vibrations from the automatic transmission in low-speed, low-RPM conditions which seem to be caused by the torque converter. It's a sporadic issue that's difficult to replicate for a mechanic, and most owners simply use the manual mode at low speeds to keep the revs up, which seems to stop the problem.

Other concerns include possible severe rust on the lower, inside portions of the doors. You'll need to gently peel away the weather stripping for a proper look. Note that Crossfire comes with a 5-year warranty against corrosion.

Several engine-related sensors are known to fail as well, so ensure things run smoothly and that any check-engine lights are diagnosed and fixed prior to purchase.

No recalls were issued related to the Crossfire--perhaps not surprising given that the majority of its platform had been produced for years prior to its existence.

On a test-drive, ensure all interior features and electronics work properly, and be sure to note the condition of the tires, engine oil and interior. Obtain service records if possible, and ensure all fluid changes and scheduled maintenance are up to date.

If you're interested in the convertible, be sure to check for proper, smooth and bind-free operation of the roof mechanism, and inspect the fabric for rips, tears and mildew.

A certified used Crossfire may be your safest bet, and you'll likely be able to find one with warranty coverage available--just to be safe. Find a good deal, and chances are you'll wind up with an enjoyable, comfortable and reliable warm-weather toy.
