Monster mover, manageable mileage
Remember when we weren't trained to think that $1.10 was a good price for a litre of gas? Ever stopped watching the readout on the pump after it counted past $100? Sworn you've heard your SUV belch contentedly after filling it up?

You're not alone--and for thousands who require the service of a large truck or SUV, today's ludicrous fuel prices are an unfortunate fact of life.

Hybrid technology can save relatively large amounts of gasoline.

SUVs don't get much larger than the Chevrolet Tahoe. Its standard 5.3-litre V8 engine delivers respectable fuel consumption, but a two-mode hybrid system is now available on the order sheet to help owners save even more. Hybrid technology can save relatively large amounts of gasoline when fitted to a larger, heavier machine than, say, to a small car.

Two-Mode Hybrid drive
Hybridizing the Tahoe sees the 5.3-litre V8 evicted in place of a six-liter Vortec V8. It works with an advanced hybrid system to help enable more digestible fuel economy and reduced emissions. It can also give owners a warm, fuzzy feeling inside that they're doing their part for Mother Nature.

By auto-stopping the engine at idle and navigating parking lots and side-streets using only voltage, periods of gas-free driving add up on each tank of fuel. On trails, Tahoe Hybrid will even crawl up steep grades in 4-LOW solely on battery power--a magical and quiet experience.

Zero-consumption, electric-only driving is possible at speeds up to about 50 km/h, while the electric motors boost performance during brisk acceleration as well. Power for the electric system is generated entirely on board, so there's no plugging in required.

In all, engineers have worked hard to make sure that this is as fuel-efficient as a four-wheel-drive bungalow can get.

Luxurious Hybrid Monster Truck?
It's an absolute beast. The rear end looks a half-mile wide, the stance is tall and proud, and side steps are mandatory for entering and exiting. Tahoe's front end has been aerodynamically modified for hybrid duty as well, but it still looks monstrous and imposing.

A two-mode hybrid system is now available on the order sheet.
