Forgetfulness is bliss
Strangely, some of the cars we test are quickly forgotten. Just think, every week we have to put a different car through its paces. And in some cases, it takes several hours – sometimes days – to get used to the new ride. But the Infiniti G37x is one of those that just seem to slip from your mind – instantly. Which is actually one of the nicest things you can say about a car.

Don’t get me wrong: if you can forget a car, it’s because you have the impression that you’ve been driving it your whole life. And not having to think about it is knowing that getting behind the wheel is like slipping on a second skin. So it’s hard to find a better compromise when the car you’re driving requires little or no time to feel comfortable in. More proof that this Infiniti has reached an exceptional level of maturity.

Familiar tune
Style-wise, the G37x sedan hasn’t changed much. The grille has been tweaked a bit, bi-xenon headlights are now standard, but for the rest, it basically amounts to the same thing as before. It features the prominent fenders of the Infiniti family and the rather high roofline of the sedan (which, you guessed it, sets it apart from the coupe version).

The cabin is all about luxury and the beautiful finish Infiniti is known for. Whether you like these cars or not, you have to acknowledge that their velvety-smooth interior and high-quality finish is well above average, even for a luxury vehicle. In fact, if it weren’t for the overloaded centre console, the dash would be very nearly perfect: the dials are modern and easy to read, the controls are strategically placed, though sometimes complicated.

My chiropractor also endorsed the high-quality seats, which you can adjust till the cows come home and firmly swaddle both driver and passenger. Of course, the rear seats are quite comfortable as well – though the middle seat isn’t ideal for longer road trips.

And how can I not mention the materials, those rich leathers and that remarkable wood trim worthy of a true luxury vehicle. In fact, more than a lot of cars, the Infiniti exudes an almost palpable sense of prestige.
