Fusion owners loved the style and handling of their rides
The Ford Fusion was quite an envelope pusher. Styled well ahead of its time, it became a popular sedan for folks who wanted an affordable four-door that refused to blend in.

Young and old people alike tended to love the Fusion’s advanced and instantly-recognizable styling. It attracted people to Ford dealers, and sucked them in with a nicely trimmed cabin, great driving dynamics and plenty of features and options. The second-generation Fusion is on sale now-- but not before the original found homes with countless Canadian families.

Fusion was available with either four or six cylinder power and a manual or automatic transmission. Base models got a smooth 2.3 litre four cylinder engine that came with a five-speed stick or optional five-speed automatic. This engine sent 160 horsepower to the front wheels, and it should prove enough for most drivers that don’t regularly travel with a fully-loaded car.

For those requiring more performance, a 3.0 litre V6 engine was available with 221 horsepower sent up front by a six-speed automatic gearbox. All wheel drive (AWD) was available paired with this engine, too.

Shoppers in the used Fusion market can look for all the staples—including a full suite of power accessories and safety features. Four-wheel antilock disc brakes were standard, and side airbags and side curtains were available too.

More upscale models could be fitted with power heated leather seating, a premium audio system, CD changer, a sunroof and even navigation. If it’s a top-line experience you’re looking for, the ‘SEL’ trim level is the machine you’re after. The ‘SE’ designation was reserved for the more basic Fusion models.

Ask a Fusion owner what they like most about their car, and they’ll probably talk to you about the interior and exterior styling, performance and handling. Fusion was a fun and sporty rig-- partially because it shared hardware with the Mazda 6. Owners of AWD models say they love the wintertime performance of their rides, and owners of the Fusion V6 tend to love the acceleration and power. More practically, owners almost unanimously rave about the upscale and nicely trimmed interior, storage levels and ease of entry and exit.
