Hyundai is expanding its lineup in every sense of the word. Hot on the heels of the ever-surprising Genesis sedan, the company is striking back with an all-new two-door variant.

The Genesis Coupe pays tribute to the Infiniti G37 with its voluptuous shapes.

The idea behind this latest initiative is pretty simple: to offer a sporty, luxurious yet unpretentious coupe at a price that defies all competitors. Obviously, styling reigns supreme. In a way, the Genesis Coupe even pays tribute to the Infiniti G37 with its voluptuous shapes.

Beyond this vague resemblance, Hyundai's new star is easy to recognize with a broken window line and unique bodywork, especially up front. The car is even more gorgeous in person than on pictures, suggesting serious attention to detail as well as premium fit and finish. It does not merely live up to the brand's reputation; it far exceeds all previous standards.

Voluntary simplicity
The interior is stimulating and overflowing with vitality even though the color scheme is all black. The Genesis Coupe boasts a silver grey center console that beautifully flows around the shifter. Material quality and selection do not raise any bar, but they're commendable nonetheless.

There are no distractions on board. Sure, the center stack houses an information center, but there is no navigation system (at least for now) and the instrument panel is easy to read. The driver can look straight ahead at all times.

The seats are nice and welcoming; they wrap your entire body and allow an adequate, sporty-type driving position. The slightly tall ride height affords good visibility on the road. The side glass not only adds to the car's bold design but also reduces rear three-quarter blind spots. On the other hand, access to the rear seats is no picnic. In fact, people over 5'4'' simply cannot sit in the back.

With regard to soundproofing, the cockpit does a great job of filtering out all exterior noises except for the one coming from the tires. The exhaust note keeps a low profile and therefore fails to titillate the ears under hard acceleration.

The interior is stimulating and overflowing with vitality even though the color scheme is all black.
