There are few who would argue about its styling. Incorporating the trademark Land Rover front hood, raised roofline and muscular fender flares surrounding attractive alloy wheels, the Freelander looks great. That said I endured more than one snide comment on how closely it resembles the previous generation Honda CR-V. No one wants to hear remarks like that after they've just spent $40 large to separate themselves from the common class.

Despite my criticisms, the Land Rover Freelander is quite a good SUV compromise if you don't mind the steep price of entry and lack of luxury appointments. Its design still looks fresh even though it has only received a few styling tweaks within almost five years of European production. All said, few competitors offer as good an on and off-road performance package, and none offer the legendary Land Rover name.
