Optional equipment includes a $1,720 DVD entertainment system for rear passengers, a $3,095 DVD-based navigation system, $1,020 power glass sunroof, $180 tire pressure monitoring system, $995 AdvanceTrac traction control, $565 2nd and 3rd row side-curtain airbags (not available with sunroof) and $380 2nd row captains chairs bringing the total price up to a $59,715. This makes the luxuriously equipped Eddie Bauer edition Expedition seem like a bargain compared to the more opulent $69,995 Navigator that shares its general architecture.

While I might elicit hate mail from environmentalists I have to admit to an appreciation of why people buy large SUVs, especially this one. The 2003 Expedition Eddie Bauer is a class act, Ford's best SUV to date. It offers exceptionally attractive styling inside and out, great driving dynamics on and off the road, a commodious interior and more than adequate features. Add it all up and it represents good value when compared to competitive full-size SUVs.
