Speaking of guzzling gas, the Aveo, well, doesn't. Its
fuel economy is fantastic. Mileage hovers at a mere 9.0 L/100 km in the city and an even more impressive 6.4 L/100 km on the highway. And with a fuel tank comprising 45 liters, fill-ups hardly threaten the wallet. Being a starving student and all, the less I spend on gas, the more I have for food!

Performance and fuel economy aside, the Aveo is pretty nice inside. Standard features such as remote keyless entry (with an alarm), power locks, windows, and mirrors, along with fog lamps and a tilt steering wheel, were all enhancements to the driving experience. And for music lovers the Aveo offers an optional MP3 player, exclusively to the Canadian market.

Its interior is also quite spacious despite its subcompact classification. Fellow journalist Rob Rothwell accompanied me for the day, and being a fairly tall individual (at over 6 feet) found that there was ample leg and headroom. Sorry folks, no 6'4" boyfriend to test headroom this time, but maybe when I spend an entire week with it. There was also ample room in the back for people and belongings. The trunk, however, is not as roomy as the rest of the vehicle at 200 L (7.1 cu ft), leaving only enough space for a few items.
From the driver's seat I found the various buttons on the dash and audio system controls were easy to reach and use, plus the gauges on the instrument panel were uncomplicated to read. My only beef with the Aveo's interior was that it lacks any 'cool' factor. But while it lacks funky, it is at least functional.
