Despite its compact dimensions, the S3X's 2.7 meter (106.3 inch) long wheelbase allows for a third row of seats,

unheard of in a vehicle of this size. Excellent packaging lets a total of six passengers ride along with a driver for a total of seven occupants. Should cargo space be needed, the third row of seats features a 50/50 split, with each side folding flat into the floor. Aluminum runners on the seatbacks and trunk's floor add a touch of detail to an otherwise utilitarian area of the vehicle. The S3X also features a low trunk sill for easy loading and a split rear window which opens separately of the liftgate.

According to insider information, there's more to the S3X than what's been officially released. Rumor has it than when the vehicle enters production in 2006 in South Korea it will use the same technical platform as the Saturn VUE and Chevrolet Equinox to save money. Along with the potential of optimizing GM's gasoline-electric hybrid system, currently available in Chevy's Silverado and GMC's Sierra pickup trucks, to a diesel-electric hybrid system, which wouldn't take a great deal of work, at least theoretically, it's also expected that the S3X will feature conventional gasoline and diesel motors, ranging from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel to a turbocharged 2.8-liter

V6 from the Opel motor portfolio. All vehicles will supposedly feature permanent all wheel drive.

Believe it or not, the S3X stands a pretty good chance at being marketed in North America too, although it won't be marketed as a Chevrolet because of its similarities to the Canadian-built Equinox. Instead, the S3X would probably be restyled and alternatively badged as either a Pontiac or a Buick, either of which serves as a logical choice. Opel, GM's European division will also get a five-seater version of the S3X as a replacement to the Frontera, which was based off of Isuzu's ancient Rodeo. Although it's questionable whether the production version of the S3X will feature the same build quality and features as the concept, the likable design is essential to boost Chevrolet's model lineup in Europe.
