2005 Hummer H2 SUT

General Motors has announced sticker prices for what's likely to be the next hot new truck when it arrives in dealerships this summer, the 2005 Hummer H2 SUT.

The H2 SUT is essentially Hummer's interpretation of the vehicle that GM also sells as the Chevrolet Avalanche and the Cadillac Escalade EXT -- a big SUV connected to a pickup truck bed by a gate that opens and closes and folds.

In Canada, the Adventure Series SUT will retail for $76,750, while the Luxury Series will go for $78,745, plus what they like to call a ''freight charge'' of $1,050. All of these prices are of course negotiable with the dealer.

Comparing sticker prices, that makes the H2 SUT about $2,000 less expensive than a comparably equipped Escalade without the pickup bed, and also includes a sunroof and rear spare tire carrier.

Hummer will beat the H2 SUT drum for about a year and then it will take up a supporting role for the less-expensive and smaller H3 pickup in 2005, which the brand says is the ''beginning of a growth strategy.''

The SUT comes with a 6-litre Vortec 6000 V8 that delivers 325 hp at 5200 rpm and 365 lb.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm through a heavy-duty Hydra-Matic 4L65-E four-speed automatic overdrive transmission with full-time all-wheel drive.

Other SUT features include 17-inch wheels, independent front suspension, five-link rear suspension, locking rear differential, leather-trimmed front and rear heated seats, premium Bose sound system, and much more.

The Adventure Series SUT also gets a brush guard, tubular tail lamp protection, roof rack crossbars, rubber floor mats, AM/FM six-disc CD changer, HUMMER first aid/tool kit, and air suspension system with onboard air compressor.

The SUT Luxury Series raises the bar even further, with ebony leather seats, up-level interior trim, exterior chrome appearance package, chrome wheels, chrome tubular assist steps, and carpeted floor mats.

''The SUT is fun, functional and almost endlessly reconfigurable,'' says Mike DiGiovanni, Hummer general manager. ''But most importantly, it's a true Hummer with unbelievable, class-leading, off-road capability.''
