Auto Express also reported that additional bracing will be added to the floor panel, door hinge panels and bulkhead to increase its rigidity, but such strengthening is common for all convertibles made from hard top models.

Also reported, the upcoming model's rear decklid will open downwards, like the original Mini, plus will even sport faux brackets to reflect the classic car's look. The center brake light is said to be positioned atop the decklid above the rear license plate inset.

Most likely both Cooper and Cooper S variants will make their way to North American markets, with 115-hp and 163-hp respectively. Also, 5-speed and CVT transmissions will take care of shifting duties, while the brand's various BMW derived electronic driver's aids, such as ABS, EBD, CBC, ASC+T or DSCIII and DBC, will be available. Run-flat tires will still be standard issue as there will be even less room for a spare.

The Cooper's 9.2 seconds to 100 km/h will be increased due to the extra weight normally associated with convertibles, as will the Cooper S's 7.4 second sprint. Due to the Mini's short wheelbase the convertible conversion should hardly be affected in handling in any negative way. In coupe form it's currently among the best in its class, or just about any class for that matter.
