In the end the 9-2X is as practical as it is powerful, managing luggage capacities of up to 790 liters (27.9 cubic feet) with the 60/40-split seatback raised and 1,744 liters (61.6 cubic feet) with it folded down.

Now that I've spent time behind the wheel I can see that Saab was smart to work with Subaru in developing its new 9-2X, as the compact premium market segment will be growing quickly and the Swedish brand wouldn't have had time to develop something all-new on its own to take advantage, nor the money to so. Volvo will bring its S40/V50 sedan/wagon to market shortly, while Acura is already doing well with its TSX sedan. BMW is expected to enter the fray soon too, with its 1- and 2-Series models, but no announcement regarding North America has been made. Other competitors that could give Saab a little trouble are mainstays such as VW's GTI hatchback and Jetta sedan/wagon, plus Mazda's new 3, in 4- and 5-door guises is so good it could easily pass for a premium entry.
