The Fusion, which is set to replace the ailing Taurus, will be powered by the same 160 hp 2.3L 4 cylinder and the same 3.0L V6 engine found in the Freestyle, Five Hundred and a few Mazdas. Speaking of Mazda, the platform for these cars is the same as that of the Mazda6. On this architecture, Ford has the intention to create 10 new models in the coming years.

The name Zephyr dates all the way back to 1936. This midsize entry-level luxury sedan targets buyers somewhat younger than what we're used to see for Lincoln. The Zephyr will receive only the 3.0L Duratec V6 that will develop 210 horsepower.

Both cars have been designed with front-wheel and all-wheel drive in mind. They each receive a 6-speed automatic transmission and a CVT could be in the works for the near future. An SVT version of the Fusion could also be in the pipeline. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Price: None have been announced.
Availability: Fall 2005

Auto123.com's impressions

Something to look forward to test-driving at Ford. Very elegant and sporty styling that will hopefully set a new trend at the FoMoCo. This Ford's first real concrete competitor to likes of the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.
