Satisfying power
Although the 2.7L V6 is 10-hp less powerful than the previous generation, accelerations in the Sebring Touring are smooth, linear and very satisfying. When waiting at the countless stoplights and toll posts of Florida, the car is almost begging to take off... despite its "small" 189 horsepower.

The 2.7L V6 equipped Sebring offers satisfying performances.

Sure, it's a little harsh at first but, once underway, the Sebring drives smoothly. In fact, the ride is so smooth that you can forget for one moment that you're behind the wheel.

The chassis is stiff and, while the steering lacks a bit of on-center precision, the driver knows exactly where the car is headed most of the time.

More spacious
In terms of size, the Sebring is obviously larger than ever before: 15 mm wider and a whopping 100 mm higher. Meanwhile, the wheelbase is longer, but not long enough to exceed that of the new Camry and Altima.

Nevertheless, the 2007 Sebring greets front passengers with more headroom and legroom than both Japanese rivals. Yet, with its narrow windows that create a fortress-like look, I initially had the impression that the Chrysler sedan had a smaller interior than the others. A double check at the spec sheets proved me otherwise.

The Sebring boasts a more compact trunk, however: 390 liters compared to 425 for the Camry and 442 for the Altima. This I can live with; in fact, there was more trunk space than I could ever need.

Will the gadgets make the difference?
To be honest, the new Sebring lacks the genuine sophistication of other popular midsize sedans. Just imagine: the base model still relies on rear drum brakes and doesn't even offer stability control as an option...

That's why I believe this car won't enjoy the same momentum as its big sister, the Chrysler 300. What could save the Sebring, however, and lure in customers are the few convenience and entertainment gadgets found on board.
