A little self-control is still in order, however, as the weight of this sports car is distributed differently than that of its sedan sibling. Over 55% of the weight rests on the rear wheels of this rear-wheel-drive model, which does induce a degree of wariness in tight corners – the back end is never more than a few centimetres away from checking out.

And because the M3 is more of a city-goer, there’s also a slight difference in the suspension settings, which are less drastic than on the sedan variants and make for a distinctly friendlier ride for everyday use. It also allows you to strut down Main Street as soon as the weather turns without teeth chattering over the uneven streets.

Less radical

In point of fact, the overall weight and power distribution place limits on the M3 convertible that will supremely annoy the demanding sports car driver. On the flip side, the well-to-do crowd looking for a certain degree of exclusivity and a unique engine sound without having to deal with a temperamental race machine will undoubtedly be thrilled with it. I sure would have gotten used to it!
