The 2008 Edmonton Motorshow is fueled-up and running from February 28th through March 2nd at the Edmonton Northlands Agricom. This ever-popular hi-octane event is a favorite among Albertans. These are folks who take their choice of vehicle seriously, and need seriously-tough vehicles to support the 40-billion dollars worth of construction underway in the northern tar sands of Canada's second most westerly province.

In addition to flaunting its lengthy but svelte Flex, Ford took the opportunity to introduce the Alberta truck crowd, which dominates the Canadian truck market, to the all-new 2009 F-150 Super Cab and Super Crew. These top-selling pickups have been completely redesigned and reengineered with a focus on enhancing capability and comfort. Not a simple task given the impressive attributes of the current truck.

Ford also displayed the 40th-anniversary Bullett Mustang and a Saleen version of their pony car. The folks at Nissan proudly boasted about being named 'The Official Trucks and SUVs of the CFL' while Lincoln wooed the well-healed with their new MKS flagship. Toyota took aim at the more frugal consumer with its redesigned Matrix, aglow in an eye-arresting, burnt-orange color.

Jaguar pounced on the opportunity to show off its metal with the supercharged XKR; it also introduced us to its latest cat, the visually expressive XF. Also visually expressive, but à la 1970s was the lime-green Viper that brightened up Dodge's corner of the Agricom. The MINI Clubman showed us that MINI no longer means mini.

Other Germans on the floor included a wide array of BMW and Mercedes Benz products along with Volkswagen's Touareg wannabe, the Tiguan, and a racy blue Jetta TDI. Stepping up to take on the German super sedans was an electric blue, V8-powered IS F. Representing the eco side of the Japanese house was the Toyota Hybrid X concept. Toyota tells us it's designed to deliver the ultimate "environmentally enhanced" driving experience.

More horsepower enhanced than environmentally enhanced was the candy apple red G8 GT that Pontiac placed front and center. Also boasting of GM-produced horsepower was a Z06 Corvette. A hulking pair of diesel-powered, Allison/Duramax Silverados represented GM's commitment to torque while a Silverado Hybrid spoke of their eco commitment. Nearby, GM used its new Malibu to exhibit its cabin design artistry of late.

Several high-performance Cadillacs were espied at this year's Edmonton Motorshow as was the new Toyota Sequoia, which is based on the latest Tundra iteration. The completely new Subaru Forester was also spotted, adding to the diverse range of automobiles and technology awaiting car aficionados and prospective buyers in Canada's oil country.
