New features for 2008
Of course, these kinds of comparisons are not enough to justify Ford's claim that its F-150 is the best among all full-size pickup trucks. There are other things to consider, such as a new, more comprehensive line of features for 2008.

One of them, available to owners of higher-end models, is a rearview camera that makes parking maneuvers easier.

Also new is a storage system inside the cargo box that's more versatile than ever, allowing the owner to use partitions in numerous ways while integrating lockable, hermetically sealed compartments. These compartments are also removable, which means you can use them as ordinary tool boxes.

A number of special editions, such as the popular Harley-Davidson model, have been added to the F-150's portfolio over the years.

The powertrain, however, remains unchanged. The lineup is still wide-ranging, from the base XL version to the ultra luxurious Lariat edition. The impressive selection encompasses three proven engines: a 4.2L V6, a 4.6L V8 and a 5.4L V8. Let's not forget the multiple cab/box configurations available, the optional limited-slip differential and the choice between 2WD and 4WD.

The excellent driving dynamics of the 2008 F-150 Lariat are certainly worth mentioning. While I drove for just a few short kilometers in rush hour, it still managed to impress me with its surprising handling that defies the vehicle's size. A bit of hopping is expected with an empty box, but the effect is negligible compared to rivals.

The icing on the cake, though, is Ford's decision to bring back the exclusive F-150 Harley-Davidson, a limited-edition model that borrows numerous design cues from the legendary bike builder. Beyond its striking looks, the highlight of this truck is a beefed up 5.4L V8 engine that produces 450 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque -- enough to move the big Ford with overwhelming ease.

The F-150 Harley-Davidson is further distinguished by 22-inch wheels, various H-D logos as well as a totally unique chrome and leather interior.

In the end, Ford might not have needed these demonstrations to show they're the best. The F-150 has long proven itself, outrageously dominating its market segment thanks to unparalleled road manners, superior payload capacities and flawless reliability. The only thing left to know is how close the competition really is.
