The AWD system again impressed me with its flexibility and ability to overcome obstacles like snowbanks. The engine delivers sports car-like accelerations while offering confidence-inspiring power for passing maneuvers. Without breaking a sweat, I reached 100 kph in 7.29 seconds and sprinted from 80 to 120 kph in 5.5 seconds (in auto mode and using the third gear).
Fuel economy at the end of my spirited road test was rated at 19 L/100 km, which is disappointing to say the least. On the plus side, in typical Porsche fashion, the brakes were remarkably effective, stopping the heavy Cayenne S from 100 to 0 kph over 38 meters despite somewhat slick Michelin Latitude tires. My "biggest" complaint is that the vehicle suffers from significant body roll on bumpy roads, like Quebec's come springtime. For this reason, I strongly recommend buyers to add Dynamic Chassis Control.
All-terrain sport star
With solid tires, the Porsche Cayenne S can tackle just about anything with graceful command. Yet, I'll say it again: get the PDCC system, even if it means increasing the price by more than $9,000. This way, you'll enjoy greater comfort and stability on damaged roads. Expect a full return on your investment if you plan on driving this high-performance mastodon on a daily basis. Trying it is falling in love with it.
