Mileage?
In some ways, a supercharged engine is like that six-dollar bottle of water in your hotel room. It's there if you need it, but if you get thirsty, you're going to pay.
Fight off the constant temptation to dip into the boost, and mileage should settle somewhere around 10.5L / 100km of high-grade if your commute is moderately highway-intensive. On my watch, consumption never exceeded 12L / 100km, even when pushed.
That's very reasonable-- especially considering that a fairly hefty V8 was needed for this kind of performance not long ago. More travel on less gas is a good thing, especially when a wicked high-powered punch is available on constant standby.
It's a technology we're sure to see more of from Ingolstadt. Who knows, maybe a V8 will be next on Audi's 'to supercharge' list.

A6 is a familiar model for shoppers after a premium taste of the technological high-life. |
