It's more than just a convertible, it's a convert-a-coupe
Not surprisingly, my favourite time behind the wheel was negotiating the canyon passes just north of Santa Monica, then immediately bolting down the Pacific Coast Highway. (If these stretches of pavement don't make you all jingly inside, I suggest swapping your driver's license for a lifetime transit pass).

Lots of you are already familiar with Infiniti's new 325-hp 3.7-litre V6 with VVEL.

My lasting impression of that ride was how great this open G sounded. When it comes to engine audibles, you get more bang for the buck in an open-top car, and Infiniti didn't waste the opportunity. The engine note has a high-tech howl, that's never harsh, and always seems to be at the right volume.

Lots of you are already familiar with Infiniti's new 325-hp 3.7-litre V6 with VVEL, and know how much torque is available (267 lb-ft) throughout the rev range. You actually don't need to upshift or downshift to find sweet spots -- you always seem to be in one.

The gearbox and clutch both feel great, though not surprisingly they have a substantial heft about them; think heavyish touring car, not sprightly, little sports car.

But the "sport-tuned" steering that's standard on Sport models is wonderfully direct and communicative, and the brakes (four pistons up front) haul the G down in very authoritative, no-fuss manner.

Other than a lack of a right armrest, I loved the driver's cockpit, and the overall driving experience.

Open top initiatives
According to Forsyth, a design goal was to further develop the comfort levels of open-top motoring, to encourage owners to keep the top down.

Initiatives include: the Bose Open Air Sound System that dynamically changes equalization based on outside noise, top position and vehicle speed; adaptive dual-zone control system that adjusts the HVAC fan speed in accordance to top position and vehicle speed; and climate-controlled seats that provide both heating and cooling functions.

I loved the driver's cockpit, and the overall driving experience.
