Going for a spirited drive, somehow makes me forget the minor annoyances. When I pushed hard enough in the corners to get the tires to start unloading, the side forces and the car began doing just a bit of a side step, adrenalin starts to flow. Like a good golf game, these moments happen often enough to keep you going, but not often enough for you to do much but grin when they do happen.

Most of my daily driving was done in the first two gears since I could break any speed limit in Canada with them. I tried leaving the car in drive a few times, but it was totally uninspiring and would chug around in fourth or fifth at 50 Kph. Engine speed was nearly at idle, but fuel economy in the 3.6 litre direct injected six supposedly improved to 11.5 l/100 km. For me, this was a fleeting target as I never managed to drive in that civilized a manner for very long.

Top down motoring did require the use of a rear wind screen that when up and working, looks a bit out of place sticking up behind the driver and passenger. It does do an excellent job of stopping the wayward breezes and thus extending the top down motoring season by many weeks. Added features are that it can stay in place with the top up and if you want to, you can fold the top half down which does allow a bit more wind, but matches the car better.

When you have a 911, plan on travelling light and fast, cargo space is very limited. The front trunk will hold a couple of overnight cases and if you fold the rear seat down into its padded parcel shelf configuration, you will be able to fit a couple more small items behind you. If you golf, you either travel alone or have a membership at a club. As for bringing home groceries, plan on eating out a lot. You won’t need to take as much home that way.

There may be some day to day shortcomings of the cabriolet, but on a year round basis, the car (in this case with all wheel drive) has a great heater, good ground clearance and only needs a set of snow tires to make winter driving memorable.

This may not be a perfect car, but it punches enough buttons for me and many others that we lust after and dream about these cars!
