When big is the only way to go
On the other hand, the Enclave’s ride is top-notch; it isn’t harsh despite wearing 20-inch chromed alloy wheels and lower-profile tires. The steering is nicely weighted and overall, the Buick doesn’t feel as massive as it is. Even when it’s time to park it, the narrow turning radius helps out a lot, and outward visibility is pretty good.

Step inside, and the first impression you’ll get is a positive one. Upon closer inspection, though, you’ll notice some small details that could’ve been better thought-out. Some dash plastics have a grainy surface that looks a little out of key in a vehicle of this price. The woodgrain trim won’t fool anybody, the climate control buttons are way too small, and the rear window wiper is activated by an awkwardly-located console-mounted switch.

GM has made progress in the design and assembly of their cockpits since the Enclave’s conception, and the LaCrosse’s cockpit is evidence of that.

Our test truck isn’t lacking in features, however, and includes GM’s swell touch-screen navigation, heated and cooled front seats, soft leather upholstery, a rear-seat DVD player and a power tailgate, among others.

Where the Enclave gains a lot of points is when you check out its interior space. Generous amounts of headroom and legroom are found in the two front rows, while the third-row bench can accommodate adults and is easily accessible.

As for cargo space, there are 657 litres of room even with all the seats occupied, and 3,265 litres with the second and third rows stowed away. That’s more cargo space than in GM’s bigger SUVs like the Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade triplets, and more space than in the Infiniti QX56 and the Lincoln Navigator.
