The Dodge Ram full size pickup line was completely remade for model year 2009, and became the segment’s only body-on-frame truck with coil spring rear suspension (instead of the traditional leaf spring design), and a storage area integrated into the rear fenders.

While Chevy and Ford still dominate the segment, the Dodge Ram continues to make market share inroads, and is arguably the truck with the most distinctive styling. It also beat out the all new Ford in AJAC Car of the Year testing.

For 2010, we get some tinkering of model and package lineups, and some new standard and optional features.

The SXT model re-joins the fold; the ascending scale is now ST, SXT, SLT, Sport, and Laramie. The SXT is about $1,000 over the base ST ($26,495), and basically gets you some cloth and carpet, shinier wheels and bumpers, and satellite radio.

The TRX/TRX4 off-road packages are also new, and offer the usual rough and ready fare: all terrain tires, skids plates, revised axle ratio, anti-spin diff, tow hooks, HD shocks, and fender flares.

Look also for the new performance-minded R/T trucks, with unique torque convertors and axle ratios, hoods with pseudo air scoops, and available 22-inch wheels and tires.

Many models now come with on-demand transfer cases, tire pressure monitoring, 700-amp batteries, and i-Pod connectivity as standard equipment.

New-for-2010 options include folding trailer tow mirrors and integrated trailer brake controller.

Rams continue to be available in Regular Cab, Quad Cab, and Crew Cab configurations, and 4x4 drivetrains.

Increased efficiency is also part of the story for 2010, as all available engines (3.7-litre V6, 4.7-litre V8, 5.7-litre Hemi V8) now feature fuel shutoff during deceleration.
