Edge debuted for the 2008 model year as a 5-passenger midsize crossover, based on the front-drive platform, which also underpins Fusion and Lincoln MKZ.

Its sole powertrain continues to be the 265-hp 3.5-litre V6 hooked up to a six-speed automatic transmission, but some tweaking to both the engine and tranny for 2010 have made Edge slightly more fuel efficient.

Front-wheel drive versions come in SE ($30,499), SEL ($33,999) and Limited ($37,499), while AWD versions come in SEL ($35,999), Limited ($39,499), and Sport ($40,699).

The optional AWD system is a reactive type, but a bit of torque always flows to the rear wheels, so when the rears need torque in earnest, the transition is smooth. This also adds to handling.

New metallic colours for 2010 include Tuxedo Black, Ingot Silver and Red Candy Tinted.

The new Leather Comfort Package for SEL features heated leather seating surfaces, and a 6-way power front passenger seat that folds forward. If you order the new Canadian Comfort Package also for SEL, you get all of the above, plus Edge's famous and large two-section VistaRoof.

The new Interior Appearance Package for Limited models throws on special brown leather seats, steering and shift knob, all with contrast stitching, a dark brushed aluminum centre stack, and unique floormats.

Other key features and/or options include ambient lighting, a tow package, power liftgate, 20-inch chrome wheels for Sport, remote start, and a headrest-mounted DVD system with two wireless headphones.

Edge is also available with the newest generation of SYNC, which has been upgraded with a voice-activated traffic direction and information application.
