It was probably the star of the greatest number of rumours these past few months. But Ford has finally lifted the veil on the legendary Mustang in its 2010 incarnation at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

However, the new Mustang left no one speechless. In fact, it is directly inspired from the actual model, very popular with enthusiasts. Though, according to the manufacturer, it boasts a more contemporary look but mostly a quality of finish and assembly that exceeds expectations.

Style-wise, it has kept virtually all the lines that made the Mustang so nice to those nostalgic for the past, and others. Mostly, the tail lamps have been remodelled and are now less present.

However, the interior has been modernized. The centre console has been streamlined, the instruments modified, and the whole thing feels more contemporary.

On the technical front, the suspension has been revised. If the entry-level V6 hasn't changed with its 4-litre, 210-hp engine, the 315-hp V8 is now more powerful.

The new Mustang will hit American dealerships at the beginning of 2009 in coupe and cabrio versions. Also noteworthy is the fact that the entire lineup has been maintained, including the ultra-powerful Shelby GT500, without however having modified the engine in the slightest.

A little green
But the Los Angeles Show is also the bastion of green cars, and Ford took the opportunity to unveil its hybrid Fusion-MKZ-Milan trio. It's not really breaking news, as the vehicle already served as the pace car at the last Nascar race of the season.

This new technology will allow the hybrid vehicles to run longer inelectric mode only, hitting speeds of nearly 70 km/h. In all, the fuel tank operating range will be raised above1,000 km.

The centre console has been streamlined, the instruments modified, and the whole thing feels more contemporary.
