The Super Duty pickups encompass the F-250, F-350, and F-450 models, designed and built for, well, heavy- duty applications. They shouldn't be your first choice for a fuel-efficient one-person commuter vehicle, or grocery getter.

Though not yet in production, Ford has already shown and released details of the all-new, next-generation Super Duty. It will hit showrooms in the 2010 calendar year as a 2011 model.

In the meantime, the 2010 Super Duty models will be available, with only minimal changes over their 2009 counterparts. Prices start at $34,099.

The manual transmission, and non limited slip axles have been discontinued.

There is a new FX4 4x4 Off Road Package, and new colours (Ingot Silver Metallic and While Platinum).

The smallest engine you can get is the 5.4-litre V8, with 300 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque. It features variable cam timing, cast iron block, and aluminum heads.

The other two Super Duty engines are equally "unshabby." Consider the 6-8-litre V-10, with 362 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque, and the 6.4-litre twin-turbo diesel V8, with 350 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. (The 2011 Super Duty debuts Ford's all-new, “in-house designed” 6.7-litre diesel engine.)

Notable options include 20-inch wheels, Quad Captain Chairs, rear view camera system, SYNC, reverse sensing, and trailer brake controller.

A little later in the model year, the Work Solution suite of options will arrive. Available are an in-dash computer with internet and wireless mouse and printer, a radio-based system to keep track of your on-board tools and inventory, a telematics and diagnostics system to aid fleet managers, and a security system for cargo items.
