Now that's more like it
It also doesn’t feel very manoeuvrable when you’re trying to get out of a parking space either, since the small side windows and high trunk limit outward visibility quite a bit. A rear view camera is included in the SHO, though, but it won’t solve the problem completely.

Ford’s newfound attention to interior detail is quite evident in the Taurus. Fit and finish is very good, while the button layout of the centre stack looks fussy but has certain logic to it, and after a few days, you easily find the button you’re reaching for.

The SHO also includes a great-sounding, 12-speaker Sony stereo with, obviously, the SYNC multimedia system which provides easy Bluetooth phone setup and a great voice-command software.

Despite the car’s big outer proportions, though, it’s not as big inside. With a wide centre console and a wraparound dash, everything is well within reach, but the Fusion mid-size sedan feels more spacious. The front footwells aren’t very roomy, either.

Safety features in the SHO include optional adaptive cruise control which is always nice to have, a collision warning system and a blind-spot monitoring system. If you like a car that avoids you the hassle of being prudent behind the wheel, this Taurus is for you.

Trunk space is among the most cavernous I have ever witnessed. With a capacity of 569 litres, the Taurus can swallow an endless amount of bags and suitcases.

With an MSRP of $49,699, which includes the $1,500 adaptive cruise control, the Taurus SHO isn’t cheap. It competes with the 290-horsepower Nissan Maxima and the 368-horsepower Dodge Charger R/T, which are both less expensive. But for the SHO’s price, I might be willing to pay a few extra thousand dollars and swing for a Lincoln MKS with the EcoBoost engine, which is more luxurious and, on a personal note, looks classier.

The SHO may be less flamboyant than a Charger R/T, for example, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing; besides the exclusive alloys, the rear spoiler and the dual tailpipes, the Super High Output version pretty much resembles a run-of-the-mill Taurus, which means it’s a sleeper.

And despite the price, it’s the best Taurus yet. But if I was choosing one for you, I’d skip the SHO, get a loaded, 263-horsepower SEL and save 15 grand.
