Lotus presented its quintet of concept cars at the Los Angeles Auto Show: the Esprit, Elan and Elise coupes, the Elite convertible and the Eterne sedan.

The most important innovation that’s found in these concept vehicles (except the Elise) is the KERS hybrid technology, which means Kinetic Energy Recovery System. It allows the recuperation of wasted energy during braking, which is stored and converted into power to temporarily assist the engine.

Lotus’ high-horsepower line-up of concept cars won’t be available anytime soon. According to the manufacturer, the Esprit won’t be available until the spring of 2013, while the Elan will arrive on the market in the fall of the same year. The Elite is scheduled for the spring of 2014, while the Elise and Eterne won’t be in production before spring 2015.
