With that disclosure hanging in the air, let me say that few vehicles—bar none—could possibly equal the sinful enjoyment of the supercharged Range Rover Sport when it comes to a road trip.
From a driver’s perspective, the supercharged engine in the Range Rover Sport is much like a drug addiction. It exhilarates the senses profoundly while siphoning money at an alarming rate. But hey, if one can afford the $87,400 ask for such a vehicle, the weekly pump tab is not likely a concern.
For less power-hungry buyers, the naturally aspirated Range Rover departs with an MSRP of $73,200.
This week’s tester was of course the supercharged beast. It leapt off the line with truly alarming velocity, which it carried undiminished until the right foot received an order to lift. In terms of SUVs, highway passing performance is perhaps only second to BMW’s X5-M, which is the fastest production SUV in the world.
But the supercharged Range Rover Sport is not just about outrageous acceleration or its ability to rock crawl, it’s about spoiling occupants with an environment that exudes old-world class and elegance combined with ultra modern features such as a dual-screen entertainment system.
