Second and third-row seating
Back-seat space, even with the front seats slid all the way back, is still very generous. I was able to sit behind the driver’s seat and still be comfortable. The first time the front seat moved backwards, which I knew would happen because of the easy entry/exit feature, I had to pull my feet back a bit. Just one of those things you have to get used to.

The third-row seat, I left folded down. I needed cargo space more than I needed a seat and from the look of it, it’s best used by those more agile than me. The second-row seat does move out of the way easily, but it is a long step to the third row and then you need to turn around and be seated.

Interior Luxury
With a Lexus, you expect luxury and the GX 460 does not disappoint. Fit and finish are exactly what you expect from Lexus, nearly perfect. Instrumentation is clear and well placed so that visibility is never an issue. All the controls are large enough to be worked with gloves on. The electronics for the stereo and navigation system set the standard for simplicity to operate and use. Sound quality is surround-sound clear, with 9 speakers placed in strategic locations.

Driving Luxury
Steering is definitely luxury-oriented in that road feel is isolated, yet the steering is precise. If you try to hustle through the corners, the large sidewalls of the tires will flex and the tires will start to howl and moan in protest. When this happens you are usually at least double the posted cornering limits in tight corners. Then the electronics cut in and you slow down to a safer speed.

The suspension on the GX 460 is good enough that you could almost believe that our streets don’t have any potholes or missing pieces of asphalt. Most of the time, all that ever made it to the interior was a bit of tire noise as they went over what should have been a bone-jarring hole.

Priced between $70,000 and $80,000, a GX 460 may not be for everyone, but it is a capable vehicle and should be right at the top of the list when you go looking for a premium, mid-sized luxury SUV.
