Delightful Rear-Wheel-Drive Balance and Performance
The IS 250 is an entry-level premium sports sedan from Lexus that seats five occupants and features V6 power along with rear-wheel-drive (RWD).

IS 250 more performance-oriented than ES 350
I’m road testing the Lexus ES 350 and IS 250 back-to-back. This sequence of events has enabled me to contrast the attributes and detractions of the two vehicles against each other. I mentioned in my ES 350 review that it was the more genteel of the pair, and that claim has been reinforced by my recent seat-time in the IS 250.

The IS 250 is a youthful offering that’s targeted at a completely different audience than the sedate ES 350. The IS seeks to satisfy those whose definition of driving pleasure includes spirited handling dynamics rather than comfy ride characteristics.

Exhibiting aggressive lines
The IS 250 projects a bolder interpretation of Lexus’s L-Finesse styling than the ES lineup. My tester was equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels and performance tires, the combination of which nicely filled its notably flared fenders wells.

Edgy bodywork work and a wedge-like high waistline complete the visual assertiveness of the lowest priced Lexus. It also imbues the car with an impressively low coefficient of drag that measures just 0.274.

My tester was equipped with the optional “F” Sport Package, which added an F-exclusive front grille and rear spoiler to further emphasize the performance orientation of this luxury marque.

Driver’s cockpit all business
Interior styling definitely prioritizes performance needs over luxury and elegance. The driver’s environment is far more cockpit-like than the plush livingroom of the ES 350. Squeezing into the extensively bolstered driver’s seat of the IS 250 connects one with the vehicle in a secure, communicative manner.
