Livelier all-wheel drive
Incidentally, all Outlanders equipped with S-AWC now come with Hill Start Assist. If you hate when your vehicle starts to roll back just as you’re about to take off from a hill, here’s your savior.

The dashboard is stylish and nicely laid out.

More powerful and more efficient!
On the technical front, the 2010 Outlander benefits from other interesting new features. First, as a result of a reprogrammed fuel management system, mileage is increased by 9 percent in the case of the 4-cylinder engine. Meanwhile, the V6 is 4-percent more fuel efficient despite gaining a few horsepower in the process (230 vs. 220).

The improved fuel economy of the 6-cylinder mill can also be credited to a new technology called Idle Neutral Logic. Let’s say you stop at a traffic light or wait in line at a Tim Horton’s drive-through (instead of shutting off your vehicle and going inside to grab your coffee). This new electronic system prompts the transmission to engage neutral as soon as you apply the brakes for more than two seconds. Then, the moment you release the brake pedal, the system re-engages the forward gears in a perfectly seamless way.

Here’s a wish: such a seemingly simple yet positively efficient solution should spread across the industry and find its way into the entire vehicle fleet — the sooner, the better.

These technical innovations allowed Mitsubishi to keep the same transmissions for the Outlander, namely a CVT for all 4-cylinder models and a 6-speed autobox for V6-powered models. The latter is called Sportronic because it features long paddle shifters (made of magnesium) behind the steering wheel, allowing the driver to perform rapid-fire shifts at will. No manual gearbox is available in Canada, however.

Providing access to the cargo area is a rear hatch with a "flap-folding" lower section which doubles as a tailgate seat for your outdoor parties!
