Diesel is out of the question is you ask Ford, since the investment required would be excessive (again, considering the size of the market) and cars would be too expensive for consumers. And despite the Quebec government’s newly-proposed bill, don’t expect Ford to go all out in pursuit of lower emissions, either.

"Emission standards are a matter of national, not provincial, regulation. If the proposed standards pass, everyone will lose in the process: we will sell our cars at higher prices as a result of the penalty, consumers will buy their new cars in other provinces, our dealers will suffer and sales taxes will just wind up elsewhere. Fortunately, Ford and other manufacturers are currently negotiating with the government and we’re confident that we will find a resolution shortly," concludes David Mondragon.
