A dynamic little beast
Proportionally speaking, the SX4 has a fairly potent engine. The 150-horse stable is quite responsive. Nothing explosive, mind you, but the little 2.0-litre, four-cylinder affair with its 140 ft-lb of torque gets things moving without too much trouble. The reduced weight resulting from the absence of an all-wheel drive greatly improves fuel efficiency too. The little munchkin only sips 7.8 litres per 100 km, while all-wheel-drive systems generally require almost 9 litres per 100 km. The automatic CVT transmission also plays a part here. It does a good job and doesn’t balk, and gearshifts are smooth even when accelerating hard.
When you get behind the wheel of the SX4 and have the good fortune to stay there for a while, what strikes you most is the sense of sturdiness it exudes. With a very short 2,500-mm wheelbase and stiff suspension, the car gives the impression it was built from a single block. Despite a few attempts, I never felt the least bit of chassis twisting or heard the slightest noise. Suzuki isn’t stingy when it comes to safety either. The cabin is peppered with air bags, each passenger benefiting from several units.
If your budget allows
This little SX4 Aero offers a combination of features that is sure to please. That’s probably why we see so many of them around here. However, I’m sure there are a lot of people who visit their local Suzuki dealer and go home empty-handed despite all its great qualities: it is very, very expensive. While the level of equipment can justify part of the cost, in the Aero’s case, you can’t even count on all-wheel drive to understand the steep price tag. On the other hand, if your budget allows, go ahead and have some fun – you deserve it!
