The V70 is Volvo’s luxurious mid-size S80-inspired wagon that underwent a major redesign for the 2008 model year. Revisions for 2010 pertain primarily to trim levels and content packages.

The 2010 V70 will be available in two distinct trim levels, with a new R-Design option now available.

The entry-level V70 is assigned a price tag of $42,495. That buys you Volvo’s tried and trusted 3.2-litre in-line 6-cylinder powerplant that dispatches 235 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission. This setup powers all V70 trim levels for 2010.

Standard equipment with the entry-level V70 includes 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, Dynamic Stability and Traction Control, Bluetooth connectivity, power driver’s seat with memory, heated front seats, T-tec upholstery and 6-speaker audio.

Moving up to the V70 Premium will require a minimum outlay of $48,495, however the extra green will fund a whole lot of niceties that include: sunroof, leather seating, power tailgate, BLIS (Blind Spot Information System), 8-speaker audio and a power operated passenger seat.

Two option packages are available with the Premium level V70. The Luxury Package will add $3,500 to the bill while the Tech Package (which also requires selection of the Luxury Package) will boost the MSRP by another $4,000.

The Tech Package increases personal safety by including Volvo’s Personal Car Communicator (PCC) technology in its keyless access system. Within 100 metres of the V70, PCC can indicate to the driver if the car is locked or unlocked, if the alarm has been activated and if there is a heart beat detected inside the vehicle.

This information can be vital to drivers approaching the V70 in a dark, isolated area.

The R-Design Package is available with the V70 Premium. It will add another $4,000 to the sticker while adding plenty more content including a lowered sport chassis, rear spoiler, sport exhaust tips and numerous exclusive R-Design visual cues.
