Having recently returned from the launch of the car and still not shutting up about it, our own Matt St-Pierre still can't say enough good things about BMW's latest M creation, the 1-Series M Coupé.
Although the car has only been available for a short while, it would appear as though BMW plans to end the production of the Super 1 next March, this according to Matt Russell, the U.S. M brand manager and Rob Dexter, BMW Canada Specialist for Product and Technology. This would then mean that both a 2011 and 2012 1M will be offered.
The reasoning behind this sad decision is that the upcoming 2012 1-Series car has received a considerable amount of updates and upgrades, making the 2011 1M an “old car” when the new 1 arrives in showrooms.
In the past, specially-bred cars were typically offered in a limited run, however we in Canada as well as the Americans, love these cars and are more than willing to plop down large sums of cash for them. We know Matt would make a cheque for $53k for a 1M if he had that kind of coin...
The end of the current 1M does not signify that this is the end of the pumped up compact Bimmer. More likely than not, the next 1 will get an M variant however it may be years away, like 2014 or 2015.
A moment of silence please for the 1M...
