The 550i's fuel economy isn't fascinating despite BMW's EfficientDynamics technology baked in, but I'm obviously not trying too hard to keep it low. The car is returning an average of 17 US mpg or 13.9 L/100 km, which is decent if not extraordinary.
So the 550i with xDrive starts at $75,900, excluding a $1,995 freight and delivery fee and, of course, taxes. Our tester with the aforementioned options costs $86,900. That's a lot of hard-earned dough, or easy-earned dough depending on what you do for a living, but know that a Mercedes-Benz E550 4MATIC can be optioned up to a similar price.
Making the new 5 Series better than the previous one didn't seem realistic to me, but I was wrong. It's not a giant leap forward, mind you, but all the little improvements here and there make for a leather-lined luxo cruiser that's more enjoyable than ever. I don't know how they'll make the next 5 better than this one, but I'm sure they'll figure something out.
