GM Fleet has releasing some more info for GM’s upcoming cop car, the 2011 Caprice. It will be available in two formats: Police Caprice 9C1 and Police Detective Caprice 9C3.

The only engine available in 2011 will be a 6.0-litre V8 that will develop 355 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque, matched to a 6-speed automatic transmission. GM announced a V6 option for 2012, however. The V8 engine will be able to run on E85 Ethanol, and the car will also be equipped with a Stabilitrak system calibrated for police duty, 18-inch wheels, four-wheel disc brakes and a four-wheel independent suspension.

The Police Detective Caprice will obviously be stealthier than the full-marked car, and will be available in seven exterior colours.

Standard equipment in both versions of the Caprice include dual-zone climate control, cruise control, a CD player with MP3 file playback and 4 speakers, six airbags, cloth upholstery up front, cloth or vinyl upholstery in back, power-adjustable front seats sculptured for gun belts, a floor-mounted shifter, a tilt and telescoping steering column, a trap speed feature which stores the vehicle’s velocity in the trip computer and automatic headlights with available DRL delete.

The 2011 Chevrolet Caprice will rival Ford’s upcoming Taurus cop car, and will only be sold to fleets, not to retail customers.
