Heavy Duty comfortable on highway, in winter
All-weather, all-job ready
Add in the four-wheel drive system, four-door crew-cab body with flip-up rear seats and a Z71 suspension package, and you’ve got a machine that should tackle any combination of cargo, trailer and occupant hauling over virtually any terrain with ease.

A week of late-winter, around-town driving in your writer’s Northern Ontario locale saw plenty of traction in the snow, thanks in no small part to the 2500HD’s massive weight. A nicely-tuned and effective stability control system allows moderate slipping and sliding, giving driver’s full control without being too intrusive.

The four-wheel drive system engages in about two seconds via a dash-mounted dial as needed, though some may wish for an ‘auto’ setting.

This winter driving enthusiast was pleasantly surprised by the 2500HD’s all-around stability and control, even in two-wheel drive on factory tires.

Gripes?
Gripes? The cabin looks somewhat dated and plain compared to the competing RAM and Ford products, and vertically-challenged drivers will, of course, wish for an easier time boarding and exiting.

The long body and tall driving position can make parking a bit of a chore too-- but a backup camera, “don’t whack that Camry” radar beepers and a relatively tight turning circle help out.

Those looking to park the bow-tie-wearing heavy-duty at their work or play site can shop one out from the mid thirties. A nicely-loaded, diesel-powered unit with some goodies like the tester run about double that.
