Discrete changes
The exterior differences between the old and new GT are subtle. The 2011 model has inherited new head lamps and a redesigned grille. And new wheels, of course, such as the 18 and 19 inch optional ones.

The cabin hasn’t undergone any meaningful transformations either. You still get a massive, flat, black dash reminiscent of the Mustangs of yore. Still retro, sure, but with the possibility of adding a few contemporary twists. After all, as a Ford product you can choose to equip it with the SYNC system.

The Mustang’s version of it includes new original features, like 911 Assist and Vehicle Health Report. Also, the MyColor system with its 125 hues allows you to change the ambient lighting of the cabin and the dash. There’s a colour to suit every mood!

The bucket seats are fantastic. Their form-fitting contours are perfect for sporty driving. However, the very high belt line and low driving position do reduce side visibility.

And rear visibility? Forget it. The elongated body, massive rear pillars and heavily inclined rear window were always a handicap in the Mustang, both back then and today.

To compensate for this problem, Ford now offers a rear camera built into the spoiler. Once you’ve put the car into reverse, the image pops up either on the inside mirror or the optional navigation screen. The camera reduces the risk, at least in sunny weather, of redecorating your rear bumper with a dent or two.

THE big news
Naturally, THE big news here is under the hood. The engine, up 97 shiny ponies, enables this Ford to shave a few tenths of a second off the 0-100 dash, which takes about 5.5 seconds. That precious time makes all the difference to the brand’s aficionados.
