The EX and SX models are shod in alloy wheels exclusive to the Forte5. And because the cabin is adjustable, the trunk space is variable as well. The hatch creates a wide, relatively rectangular opening (contrary to, say, the less practical V-shaped opening of the Versa). In the Forte5, the sill is higher than the floor. The gap measures roughly 12 centimetres in the LX, but it’s half as big in the two other models, whose floor has been elevated by the inclusion of a storage module comprised of small cases in back. By elevating the floor, the loading capacity drops from 550 to 438 litres (when the 60-40 split seats are up).

European-style
On the road, the Forte5 has no cause for jealousy. Whether the LX or SX, the steering is precise and the braking power, ensured by four disc brakes, is easy to dole out. The suspension is rather stiff, like that of a compact European model. Will our American neighbours be able to appreciate it?

Front space is generous and the bucket seats are inviting. The seat backs aren’t too form-fitting though. On the other hand, they will suit a wider range of body types.

That being said, if all three versions feature a tilting steering wheel, the base model’s (LX) isn’t also telescopic. Now that makes a big difference in adapting and optimizing the cockpit for all body types!

Reduced visibility
Because the belt line of this elegant car turns up at the back, the field of vision is limited. This means parking manoeuvres will be trickier. In this car, the reverse camera makes all the difference. Too bad it’s exclusive to the Forte5 SX, the most richly endowed of the three.

On the flip side, note that all Forte5 variants enjoy large, heated, electric side mirrors, an uncommon double advantage in the compact segment.

The elegant profile does restrain visibility though, especially out back. (Photo: Luc Gagné/Auto123.com)
