Down with buttons
To make matters worse, sound volume and ventilation intensity are controlled by temperamental little cursors. Precision and speed matter a lot. Oh yeah, and did I mention that it’s generally impossible to activate the touch commands while wearing gloves? Maybe that’s why Ford, thinking of nippy winter mornings, included a heated steering wheel as standard equipment…

Distractions, distractions
While spectacular looking, all this gadgetry takes up way, way too much of the driver’s attention. Its relevance is rather questionable, and it’s so overwhelming that you quickly forget there’s supposed to be an engine under the hood.

But there is! A 3.7-litre, rather potent, V6 to be exact. When unleashed, the 305 ponies allow the car to bound from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds. That’s more than enough to get you from one light to the next. More than satisfying performance that entails an average fuel consumption of 12.7 litres per 100 km.

The hushed cabin, compliments of excellent soundproofing work, allow you to enjoy the stereo in all its audible glory. What’s more, because the car is shod in 18-inch wheels and rests on a suspension system emphasizing comfort (the Edge Sport boasts impressive 22-inch clogs and a stiff suspension), you’re treated to a smooth ride with very little corner roll, typical qualities of Lincoln products.

Inside, space is the name of the game, front and back. However, the rear doors don’t open as fully as they could and hamper access somewhat. On the flip side, your rear passengers will rave about the heated seats (except the middle one).

The flexible cargo area is among the biggest in the class, whether the back seats are up or down. Only the Lexus RX offers more space in both cases.
