The market's classiest wagon?
Ditto loading it up with gear.

There’s a remote-operated power tailgate, trunk-mounted storage cubbies for smaller items, and even front-seat mounted storage drawers. Drivers also benefit from climate control, wipers, headlights and even high-beams that are all fully automatic—meaning it’s easy to simply hop in, sit back, and enjoy any drive.

The cargo area even has a set of erectable ‘drop seats’, which allow the parents or grandparents to proudly display their favourite offspring to other motorists. With the little ones facing rearward, entertainment value between said motorists and offspring should provide endless hours of road-trip shenanigans.

Excellent illumination, traction
Notably, the fully automatic lighting system was one of the best your correspondent ever spent 600 kilometres perched behind on a cold winter night. Crisp, white, xenon-fired illumination saturated the road ahead, constantly turning, bending, raising and lowering as the projectors and high-beams optimize forward illumination in real time. The system was especially appreciated while sportily traversing a half-hour worth of unplowed backroads after dark.

If you’ve never liked nighttime driving, the E350 Wagon might change your mind. Extra points for the ultra-bright LED taillamps, which shout ‘back off, now’ to other motorists whenever illuminated. Snowstorm? What snowstorm!

Should snowy highways separate you and yours from your destination, the slick and decision-free 4Matic AWD system makes tackling low-traction situations a breeze. Seamless, ‘always-on’ traction and a rear-biased power split mean the E350 is predictable, planted and secure. Note that the factory all-season tires should be upgraded to winter rubber for maximum traction—AWD or not.
