Pleasant drive
On the snow-covered roads of the Greater Quebec City area, the 2.5i displayed the same attributes that have made the Legacy a pleasant tourer. The steering is beautifully precise and easy to control, providing that all-important feedback during winter.
The fully-independent suspension offers an excellent balance between ride and handling. The 4-wheel disc brakes are easy to modulate while the ABS is not what I would call intrusive in snowy conditions.
The powertrain is quite responsive and delivers adequate sprints (0-100 km/h in about 9 seconds with the automatic transmission) for a family sedan. A manual mode with paddle shifters on the steering wheel is available, allowing the driver to get the most out of the engine.
The interior comfortably sits four adults and a fifth passenger if need be. There's actually plenty of room for the head, legs and feet in the back. Believe me, you won't gain much with a Camry or Accord, and that goes for noise insulation, too. The 60/40 split rear seat folds down to maximize cargo capacity. The trunk alone is just as big as those of said rivals.
Last but certainly not least is Subaru's symmetrical full-time all-wheel drive system. Not only does it provide superior traction in all conditions, but it has virtually no effect whatsoever on fuel consumption. Try to beat that!
