Compensating for the tight accommodations is a svelte body that makes the Kizashi the sexiest mid-size sedan around. There’s a hint of VW and Audi in the front fascia, while the rear end boasts a ducktail trunklid and dual exhaust tips with chrome garnishes. This car doesn’t need any spoilers or hood scoops to give it a dynamic look.

Every Kizashi is powered by a 16-valve, 2.4-litre 4-cylinder engine. It produces 180 horses and 170 pound-feet in the S model, and it’s connected to a continuously-variable automatic. Zero to 100 km/h takes 10.5 seconds, which isn’t lightning fast, but it feels livelier than that.

Some might obviously lament the lack of a V6 engine, which is available in just about every competitor. Not many people actually opt for it, though, so we won’t make a big deal about it. Our fuel consumption during this snowy week of testing is averaging 10.6 L/100 km.

The Kizashi feels solid, rewarding its driver with a quiet ride and a European-firm suspension. Not many mainstream mid-size sedans feel as sporty as the Suzuki; actually, the only one that comes close is the Mazda6.

Base price for the Suzuki Kizashi S is $25,995 before taxes, freight and delivery. Similarly-equipped rivals include, among others, the Mazda6 GS-I4 with Comfort Package ($25,195), the Fusion SE with Sport package ($25,399), the Altima 2.5 S with Luxury Package ($28,398), the Sonata GLS ($26,249) and the Avenger SXT ($24,690).

If you prefer rowing through gears on your own, the Sport trim is the one for you. If you want the added benefit of all-wheel drive, the SX trim is the one for you. If you want both of these features together, you’re out of luck. I believe the S trim is perfect for most mid-size sedan shoppers.
