Hello, my name is
The SX4 Sedan is now four years old but is aging well. Its conservative but cheery styling is still pleasing, although some people might say that its tall greenhouse makes it look narrow and clumsy. The lower-body aerodynamic kit and rear spoiler on the Sport trim definitely helps.

That tall greenhouse, however, is beneficial inside the car. Front and rear, passengers sit upright, the seat cushions are high, and entry/exit is easy. Both front-seat occupants get their own inboard armrest, and the driver’s seat can be adjusted in height for an ideal position. In back, legroom looks tight but actually isn’t, because you’re sitting straight.

This year, Suzuki added rear side airbags as standard equipment, for a total of eight.

Like in the Kizashi mid-size sedan, the SX4’s dashboard boasts a high level of fit and finish. Subtle chromed trim pieces brighten things up, while every switch and button feels as solid as in any Honda or Toyota. You won’t have the impression of sitting in a cheap car. We’re not too crazy about the Etch-a-sketch seat patterns, but that’s not a big deal.

As for trunk space, the SX4 sedan beats every other compact rival with its 439 litres of volume. Well, almost, as the new Jetta’s boot is just as voluminous. Ironically, it’s more practical than the SX4 Hatchback with the rear seat in place; then again, the sedan shares its wheelbase but it 15 inches longer, all of which hangs behind the rear wheels.

One thing we really don’t like with the SX4, and we’ve said it before, is the wideness of the car’s A-pillars, shaped like upside-down Ys and blocking outward visibility. You kind of get used to it, but you’ll find yourself moving your head around left and right to make sure you’ve covered those blind spots in intersections. Let’s hope Suzuki addresses this problem in the next-gen SX4.
